L&T Bags INR5.82bn Orders For Electrical Projects In India, UAE

Electrical & Gulf Projects Operating Company, a part of Larsen and Toubro's (L&T's) construction division, has bagged orders worth INR5.82bn for four electrical projects in India and UAE.

The company has secured INR1.55bn order from Tamil Nadu Electricity Board for the turnkey contruction of 37km of 400kV multi-circuit transmission line. The project is to be completed in 10 months and will transmit power from north Chennai thermal power station stage II to Almathy 400kV substation.

The second order, worth INR900m, involves the construction of 765/400kV air insulated sub-station in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh for Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation Limited (UPPTCL). The order was secured against international competitive bidding and the entire project will be completed in two phases – first phase by March 15, 2011, and second phase by July 31, 2011.

The company has also secured INR700m order from NLC Tamilnadu Power Limited (NTPL) for the construction of 400/220kV gas insulated switchyard at 2x500MW NTPL power project, Tuticorin. The project is to be completed in 34 months in a phased manner for different packages.

Lastly, L&T has bagged INR2.67bn EPC order from Federal Electricity and Water Authority (FEWA)-UAE for construction of two 132/33/11kV gas insulated substations. To be completed in a construction schedule of 13-15 months, these gas insulated substations are expected to improve the power system stability in the northern regions of the UAE.
